What personal data we collect
- Your IP address is collected in server logs for diagnostic purposes as you browse the site.
- Your name, email address and IP address are collected when you fill in the contact form.
- Your name, email address and social media details are collected if you leave a comment on a blog post (in addition to the actual comment)
What we do with the data you collect
- Your IP address in the server logs is collected for diagnostic purposes and to help keep the site secure. It is deleted regularly when a new log is started – access to this data is restricted.
- The information collected when you complete the contact form is emailed to the site owner. Details submitted using the contact form submission data (IP address, user agent, email address, site URL, and comment) is submitted to the Akismet service (also owned by Automattic) for spam checking.
- When visitors leave comments or complete the contact form on the site we collect the data shown in the form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
- The server hosted in this website is located within the UK (Amazon data centre, London) so data you provide will not be transferred out of the EU economic area (EEA)
- The information provided by WordPress Stats is used to measure the number of visitors to the site and to improve the service we provide.
How long we keep your information
- If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
- Server logs are deleted regularly
- Contact form submission data is stored in the database of the fiendishlyclever site and deleted during housekeeping at regular intervals.
- For users that register on our website (by invitation), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
- Contractual emails and those related to payment for services are kept for six years in line with guidance from the UK Inland Revenue. Other emails are deleted when no longer required (usually after responding)
Embedded content from other websites
- Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
Who we share your data with
- IP information, contact information etc will not be shared with anyone without the express consent of the person providing it (unless required to do so by law)
What rights you have over your data
- If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
- You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
- You can make requests through the contact page.
How we protect your data
- Fiendishlyclever runs over https to protect your privacy when browsing. Minimal data is kept by the website to comply with the requirements of the GDPR.
- Rob Butler (trading as Fiendishlyclever) uses Google’s G-Suite for emails and cloud storage and all accounts secured (e.g. two-factor authentication is enabled for all accounts that receive customer data)
What data breach procedures we have in place
Users will be notified by email and by posting to the website within legal timelines.
- If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to save your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
- If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Managing cookies in your browser
You can use the options in your web browser if you do not wish to receive a cookie or if you wish to set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie.
